I’m scheduled for a liver biopsy next week. The medication is Humira and Enbrel. MRI shows enlarged liver and spleen. Has anyone experienced this and if so, what was the outcome?
I get Remicade infusions every 6 weeks for psoriatic arthritis, combined with weekly doses of methotrexate. I’ve had one high liver test outcome and couldn’t get my infusion until it came down. I retested a week later and my numbers were normal again. But, I’ve never taken Humira or Enbrel. I’ve been on infusions for about a year now and only the one high liver test. It might be something to ask your doctor about doing instead of the Humira/Enbrel route. Hope this can help, good luck to you.
Does anyone have any experience of magnetic collars for dogs with joint pain?
Posted by: | CommentsMy 13 year old dog is very healthy, and is very active, however she has a bit of an arthritic shoulder joint. She’s had pain relievers and anti-inflamatorys from the vet, but I was wondering about a magnetic collar, and if this would provide a more natural relief. Any experiences would be grateful. Thanks.
Best thing that helped our two furkids (when not wanting to use strong meds) is glucosamine chondroitin. There is a manufacture of this and the product is called, Cosequin. It is made especially for dogs. You do not have to get it from a vet. Some of the pet supply wearhouse stores sell it and so do some of the catalog pet suppliers. But you can also get it from your vet. We found out our vet sells it cheaper than the supply places mentioned above. It made a world of difference for our two furkids.

Can anyone please tell me some good natural help for Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Posted by: | CommentsI have a friend that is suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis…and is supposed to see a specialist in a few weeks…right now he needs something to help. All the prescription mdsis just a temporary fix.
I need something that might give him relief now. Can you help please???
NO potatoes
In just one night you will see the difference.
Addition: I have had some luck with cherries, and ginger chopped and made into tea (or ginger caps) but my favorite all time pain reliever for this has been ___BOSWELLIA___ (also known as frankincense – in caps of course) . This I used all winter 2008-2009 to keep pain at bay. Now I am using enzymes (Woebyzyme- [sp?]) to eat up the c-reactive protein that causes pain. Of course, summer is easier on sufferers.
Note: Since I also had trouble sleeping, I used scullcap for a few nights to regain my sleep rhythm. (Although I do not like to mix, scullcap is also useful for pain.
I was also adding cardamom to my coffee.cardamom is respected in France for pain.
It’s up to you to find what suits you best.

i walk an arthritic dog?
Posted by: | Commentsor i used to, she cant really walk anymore.
im getting the peticure thing so there isnt alot of pressure on her paws, (her nails are very long) so after that, her paws should feel better.
i saw a website where they have a liver flavored tablet that gets rid of arthritic pain and runny eyes and everything, i decided we are going to try it. i lost the webpage.
could you guys send me links to arthritic pills that you know of?
thank you!
Get her nails short as possible and work on making them even shorter by paring off a bit of nail every 3 days until they are where they should be. If there's no "click" sound when your dog walks across a hard floor they're short enough.
Now on to the arthritis. This is what I do.
Start by supplementing with glucosamine and chondroitin. Buy this at any place that carries supplements for people, same stuff.
Next, depending on the size of your dog, use buffered aspirin. If you have a dog over 50 lbs or so, try one bufferin with breakfast and one with dinner. Always buffered, always with a meal. Most dogs tolerate this just fine, but some do not, so watch for any signs of stomach upset. For toy dogs, talk to your vet for dosage.
If the bufferin doesn't do it, ask your vet for many of the anti-inflammatory pain-killer meds out there. I use rymadyl myself, but again, some dogs don't tolerate it well. Your vet can work with you on what does work for your dog.
I have had a lot of success using pain killers along with "adequan". This is an injectable medication that works to increase the synovial fluid in the joints (like adding oil to an engine). Your vet can write a script for it and teach you to do the injections yourself (much cheaper). Do 2-3 shots as a loading dose for a few weeks. If you skimp on this, you won't get a good effect. Later, cut back to once a week, then once a month. It's produced miracles in some of my dogs. Remember, be patient, about 3 weeks to start seeing improvement.
Best of luck.
Rheumatoid Arthritis, does anyone have some idea's for easing the pain and discomfort?
Posted by: | CommentsI have a male friend in his mid forties who has suffered this disease since he was 27, it hurts to see him suffering, does anyone have any ideas about possible diet changes or natural remedies that may help.
***Dietary Changes
The Nightshade variety of plants can cause problems in people with arthritis. You will want to avoid or greatly reduce your intake of these foods.
GREEN NIGHTSHADES are WORSE: Green Potatoes, Green Tomatoes, Green Bell Peppers are the worst for you. AND most nightshade vegetables are harvested when green (not good). (Green tomatoes turn red after harvesting).
WHAT ARE NIGHT SHADE VEGETABLES?
Tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, red and green peppers and paprika, Peppers of all kinds green, red, chili, paprika, cayenne, hot and sweet, Bell peppers (green, red, yellow, cherry)
Paprika, Cayenne pepper (capsicum), Pimento, Chili peppers
Hot peppers (long & red, red cluster) Tobacco is also a nightshade. So is Jimson weed. Unconfirmed Rumor: is that Coffee too might be a nightshade? (still researching)
EXCEPTIONS: Sweet Potatoes (high in Vitamin A), and Yams (not high in Vitamin A), and Black and white pepper do not fall into this category. Avocados are also OK (in fact, Avocados are high in esential, prefered amino acids, and healthy fats). I have found spicy tasty "Miso" (soy) products without night shade.

*Cut back on some of these and see if you experience any changes.
***Drink
2 cups distilled, purified, or mineral water
1 large apple-wash, scrub to take off wax and poisons
2 lemons-wash, scrub to take off wax and poisons
Cut up apple and lemons, and blend in blender with water. Put 3 Tbsp. blended mixture into pineapple, apple, or orange juice and drink. This can be drunk once a day or more often as desired. It helps increase mobility and decrease pain when used regarly.
***Miracle Herbal Rub
You may think it a hoax to call this stuff a "Miracle" but my uncle got so much relief from rubbing it on his arthritic hands, that he had his wife buy 1 pound each of the ingredients so they could make their own.
*It comes in a bag premixed, or you can buy your own herbs.
Ingredients: 1/2 cup Arnica flowers, 1/2 up St. John’s Wort, 1 tsp. Cayenne pepper
Simply put these herbs into a container (I use a washed out mayonnaise jar) and pour in 16 ounces of Wintergreen alcohol. Store for two weeks-shaking vigorously every day. After the 2 weeks is over, strain out the herbs and bottle the solution. That's it! Rub when needed.
I have been using this on my grandmother's sore back and shoulders. I used it on a knee that was bothering me (not arthritis) and I add olive oil to it and rub it into my husband's back when he has muscle strain.

The Progress Of Rheumatoid Arthritis, A Reason To Worry
Posted by: | Comments
Rheumatoid arthritis is a real reason for a person to worry, because of its progressive character. The cases of spontaneous remission, without using a treatment occur rarely. As there are many treatments available in the battle against arthritis, it is natural for different people to react differently.
The results depend on the following elements:
- In what stage was the disease diagnosed
- What is the patient’s age
- The activity of the disease
Every case is unique and so are the patient’s reactions to the different means of treatment. But there are some standard aspects common to most of them:
- The intermittence of symptoms. In about 20% of the cases the symptoms and the disease itself progress and regress
- Long remissions, which can take even years in 10-20% of the people with rheumatoid arthritis
- Progressive character of the disease, that demands for long term medication and coordinated efforts of the medical staff
There are some ways to determine whether RA has a progressive nature in your case, too:
- It lasts for a long period and it has a violent activity
- Rheumatic nodules that especially appear on the elbows
- An active inflammation occurs in your articulations and it is shown by tests
- The damage was already done when the x-rays gave your diagnosis
- The disease appeared from an early age, so it has a persistent character
It is important for you to be examined by an rheumatologist, by means of articulation exams, tests and x-ray to verify whether the disease made progress. In case a reexamination shows a progress, there are medical means to control it.
The pain caused by the different kinds of arthritis may be reduced or eliminated by transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, also known TENS, which drives more electrical impulses to the painful area’s nerves. Other pain relievers are drugs like ibuprofen and naproxen, which are anti-inflammatory non-steroids (NSAIDs). And so are COX-2 inhibitors. Although they are effective in dealing with arthritis, the last ones increase the risk of heart attack and strokes.

Herbal Remedies – Can They Cure What Ails You?
Posted by: | Comments
You’ve probably heard about herbal remedies before and how they can treat a variety of health problems with fewer side effects than conventional medicines. Like many, you might have thought they seemed too good to be true or you’ve simply passed them off as quackery or voodoo medicine. While all of that is perfectly understandable, if you invest some time to learn about these natural alternatives, you’ll be surprised to learn how effective, affordable and beneficial herbal remedies can be to your health.
So now that you’re interested in herbal remedies, what are they and how do they work? Quite simply, herbal remedies are the original and most traditional form of medicine, with thousands of years of practice backing up their claims. Using ingredients found in nature, particularly from plants and from some animal life, herbal remedies are effective in treating a number of common ailments and promoting the overall health of the body. And as with conventional medicine, there are multiple uses for each specific herb and so many applications that entire books have been written to describe and teach the cures made possible through herbal remedies.
Plants are the primary source of herbal remedies because many of them contain chemical properties that are beneficial to the body’s health. In fact, you may be surprised to learn that even commercial pharmaceutical offerings often list plant products among the ingredients in their drugs. One example is saponin, a chemical compound thatâs often used to treat heart conditions and is believed to have some cancer fighting properties. Known for its detergent, or cleansing characteristics, this herb like many others can be toxic if misused. Tannins, another plant compound, can help slow the bleeding of wounds and some types also possess strong antimicrobial properties. As with saponin, tannins can also be harmful if not administered properly.
Once you have discussed your needs with an herbal expert or your doctor, you’ll want to decide how to take your chosen herbal remedy. Herbal remedies are often administered as teas and tinctures. Although most people are familiar with herbal tea, some may not be aware that a tincture is actually a concentrated liquid extract of an herb. It is also possible to eat many kinds of herbs fresh from the garden, either alone or as part of a meal. Some herbs can be processed to use as compresses, creams, poultices, salves, and essential oils. Herbal remedies are increasingly popular these days and are commonly found in commercial stores in capsule or tablet form for greater convenience.
What exactly should you expect to gain by using an herbal remedy? Known to boost overall health and immunity, herbal remedies can treat a wide variety of chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, digestive problems, memory problems, cardiovascular disease, and acute conditions such as skin problems and colds. However, if youâre already taking medication, discuss your herbal remedy treatment options with your doctor, as some herbal remedies have been known to interact negatively or decrease the effectiveness of some prescription drugs. Also, just because herbs are natural, theyâre not necessarily safe, especially in large doses. For best results, meet first with a trained herbalist or naturopathic doctor.

Tips for Reliving Arthritis Pain Using Natural Remedies
Posted by: | Comments
Arthritis is an extremely painful disease, that makes it hard to accomplish even the simplest tasks, as every move the sick person does involves a lot of pain. There are a great deal of prescription drugs that can be supplied by pharmacies to relieve the pain. So, many arthritis patients consult their doctor and get one of these medications. However, many of them have side effects, and not all of us like using them.
Another alternative is to use a natural remedy as an alternative to medications. These alternatives can provide some relief while avoiding the side effects.
The natural treatments to arthritis that have been found useful are:
1. Aromatherapy – This treatment method uses smells as a way to treat people for a verity of conditions. It may seem odd, but this treatment method has quite effective in treating all kinds of conditions, as well as arthritis.
2. Fruit and vegetables juices – With so many vitamins and minerals inside them, fruit and vegetables juices are a great way to elevate the body’s ability to fight the arthritis symptoms, and strengthen the body to withhold the disease. Many arthritis patients who get on a fruit and vegetables juices daily regime, report improvement in their condition after a few weeks.
3. Green Lipped Mussel Extract – This natural medication have been shown to not only ease the pain of arthritis but to also reduce the swelling in the tissues that the disease causes. The Green Lipped Mussel is a shell fish from New-Zealand. The extract that is made from it has proven to provide a great treatment for arthritis without the associated side effects that conventional medications have.
4. Using herbs – herbs like devil’s claw, ginger, white willow bark, and cayenne can be used too. Just consult a professional in the natural health field as to what herbs you should use.
5. Hypnotherapy – been used lately as a way to reduce and control the pain and swellings of arthritis. If you are willing to try, a professional hypnotist may just help you control and tolerate the pain.
It’s recommended you consult a doctor before stopping using any medication, as well as combining medication with any natural treatment.
